Shaggy Plays Hospital Concert

Monday, January 23rd, 2012

A charitable fundraising event was held on January 7th in the Jamaica House on Hope Road for the Bustamante Hospital for Children located on Arthur Wint Drive.

The Shaggy and Friends Charity Concert featured several stellar performances by Shaggy and many other well known musicians such as Assassin, I-Octane, Gyptian, Tarrus Riley, Tami Chynn, Romaine Virgo and Wayne Marshall. The concert also featured several other international acts such as Deniece Williams, Eve and Lauryn Hill.

The concert drew a huge crowd of several thousand individuals, many of them spending nearly $25000 for a ticket. A smaller crowd gathered in a much smaller area not far away from the concert to share the joy of this special occasion.

This great annual event was also witnessed by the patients and staff of the Bustamante Hospital for Children. A huge 12×14-foot screen was set up in the medical facility by LIME, the concert sponsors and telecommunications providers. For the first time, this arrangement made it possible for the staff and patients to enjoy several great moments from the charity concert.

Stephen Price, the head of the marketing team at LIME, said that as the sponsors of the concert, they aimed to make this event much more special and memorable than ever before. To do this, he wanted the children of the hospital to share the joy and excitement of the concert, as normally they would not have the opportunity to be a witness to the performances of these international artists. This, he felt, would contribute significantly to the importance of this concert to both the benefactors as well as the beneficiaries. Stephen also reported that the kids were so happy that when the performers waved at the kids, they responded immediately and waved back to them.

The CEO remarked that all this has been possible mainly due to the emotional connection the hospital staff and patients have with Shaggy.  Shaggy is highly respected by the hospital community for what he has been doing over the past couple of years.
